Pre-tour

Pre-Conference Tour of Hever - 70 GBP

Monday, July 3, 2017- 8:00-18:30

The counties of Sussex and Kent are blessed with verdant rolling hills, white cliffs and beautiful scenery, and this conference tour will take in highlights of the South’s rich cultural heritage. The tour will begin with a visit to Bateman’s, the Jacobean home of Jungle Book author Rudyard Kipling, including the gardens and water mill. Batemans

Surrounded by the wooded landscape of the Sussex Weald, this 17th-century house, was the family home of world-famous writer, Rudyard Kipling. The rooms, described by him as ‘untouched and unfaked’, remain much as he left them.

Hever Castle

Hever Castle is an important historic castle on the English landscape, and was once the family home of one of England’s most famous Queens – Anne Boleyn, the intriguing second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I. Post-tour

Post-Conference Tour of Arundel - 80 GBP

Thursday, July 6, 2017- 8:00-18:30

This tour will take in highlights of the South’s rich cultural heritage. The tour will begin with a visit to Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyards. Situated within the Royal Navy’s oldest working base, Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard includes some of England’s most iconic ships – the Mary Rose, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior, and it is the only place in the world to see the Royal Navy past, present and future. In the afternoon we venture into the West Sussex countryside, and visit one of the largest inhabited and complete castles in England, Arundel Castle. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the castle, the extensive gardens, and neighbouring village with its lovely Georgian and Victorian houses and plethora of unusual independent shops, before ending the day with a traditional English cream tea.

Tour Locations

Arundel Castle

One of the largest inhabited and complete castles in England, Arundel Castle is situated in magnificent grounds overlooking the River Arun in West Sussex. Established by Roger de Montgomery in 1067, the castle was damaged in the English Civil War and then restored in the 18th and 19th centuries.

HMS Victory

HMS Victory is the Royal Navy’s most famous warship. Best known for her role in the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar, the Victory currently has a dual role as the Flagship of the First Sea Lord and as a living museum to the Georgian Navy. Experience the once crowded decks where over 800 men lived, worked and fought.
