IJSEE Policies

Open Access

IJSEE is an Open Access journal. Everyone, including authors and readers, can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of published articles. No fees are charged at any point to the authors and readers.

Peer Review

IJSEE practices a double-blind peer review. The review process has basically four stages: (1) administrative checking (the Editorial Office makes sure that all information needed for processing the submission further was provided and complies with the Author Guidelines); (2) primary checking of an anonymous submission, involving an assessment of its suitability for publication (based on the quality of language, compatibility with IJSEE aims and scopes, evidence of research, and sufficiency of references to the international literature), performed by a member of our Editorial Board chosen based on the topic of submission; (3) thorough review of the anonymous submission with respect to its scientific soundness by two reviewers, one proposed by you and another appointed on behalf of the IJSEE; and (4) proofreading and checking whether the article is written in compliance with the Author Guidelines.

Author’s Rights and Copyright

No articles will be published if they violate other author’s rights and copyright, fully or partially, through plagiarism (including self-plagiarism) or inclusion of elements (such as images) that do not belong to them and for which they did not receive a written consent to use. Plagiarism is defined as reproducing ideas or full contents from someone else without crediting the original source using the citation system specified in the Author Guidelines. During the review process, plagiarism must be immediately reported by the Reviewers using the Review Form, providing sufficient evidence (including the results of specialized software). If plagiarism is detected after publication, articles will be withdrawn from IJSEE.

Responsibilities of the Authors

The submission of a paper implies that it has not been published or submitted and is not considered for publication by any other journal and in any other language, that the research described in the paper is original, and the presentation does not violate author’s rights or copyright. In addition, the contents of the paper must be known and approved by all authors, who contributed to writing the paper and/or the research described within. Authors assume full responsibility for the contents, correctness and originality of the submissions.

Responsibilities of the Reviewers

Reviewers must inform the Editor in Chief if they cannot evaluate an article for any reason, including the fact that it does not fit with their background or determines a conflict of interests. Otherwise, they must complete the process by submitting a complete Review Form. No other means of communication can replace the Review Form, unless previously agreed with the Editor in Chief. If the reviewers do not return a Review Form, the submission is reassigned to a different reviewer.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Board

The Editor in Chief, Associate Editors and members of the Editorial Board must ensure a correct, unbiased and competent review by securing the double blindness of the review process, assigning submissions to reviewers based on matching the research areas to those of the submissions, and providing active solutions to potential conflicts during the reviewers and authors while keeping each other’s identity undisclosed to its counterpart.

Conflicts of interests

Authors, members of the Editorial Board and reviewers must mention, whenever applicable, potential conflicts of interests, with a possible impact on the review process. Authors must include all grant information if their work results from funded research.

If authors find significant errors in their articles after publication, they must notify the journal and arrange with the Editor in Chief the submission of a corrected version.

Forthcoming Articles

The IAFOR Journal of Sustainability, Energy & the Environment: Forthcoming Articles

ISSN: 2187-0632

Editor: Alexandru-Ionuţ Petrişor

Editor’s Note

Since Ernst Haeckel defined it during mid 1800s, ecology encompassed studies of organisms in relationship with their living conditions and with other organisms, and of the organization (including components and relationships) and functions of communities and systems, such as the biogeochemical cycles and their relationship with the diversity and stability of the entire systems.

The energy crisis and theses phrased by the Club of Rome suggested new research directions, such as the impact of human communities on natural resources, pollution and environmental degradation, up to the global change, a new term designed to include land use, energy use, and climate change. Re-thinking socio-economic development to address environmental issues led to a new concept, sustainability, coined by the Brundtland Report. Research aiming to identify the concrete means for making socioeconomic development sustainable added new branches, including conservation biology, ecological design and economics, industrial, urban, and social ecology, but also theoretical and systemic ecology and many others.

The new directions evolved to a new science of sustainability, paralleled by the inter- and trans-disciplinary interchanges that connected ecology to other sciences, leading to the creation of an entire group of environmental sciences.

To address research carried out on all these topics and all other related ones the IAFOR Journal of Sustainability, Energy & the Environment (IJSEE) aims to become a flagship, publishing only the best articles in all subjects covered (sustainability, energy and environmental issues), including theoretical considerations, full and brief research reports, but also opinion articles, conference reports, extensive literature reviews and book reviews.

The articles will cover one or more of the following subjects: agroecology, aquatic and marine ecology, biogeochemistry, biogeography, community ecology, conservation biology, ecological anthropology, ecological design, ecological economics, ecological engineering, ecological succession, ecophysiology, ecotoxicology, energy, environmental psychology, environmetrics and quantitative ecology, evolutionary ecology, forest ecology, human ecology, hydrobiology, industrial ecology, microbial ecology, population ecology, restoration ecology, social ecology, soil ecology, sustainability, systems ecology, theoretical ecology, and urban ecology.

We encourage submissions from all over the world, as long as they fit with the scope of the journal, the papers have not been published or submitted and are not considered for publication by any other journal, the research described by the paper is original, and the presentation of other materials does not violate any other author’s rights, the contents of the paper is known and approved by all authors, who contributed to writing the paper and/or carrying out the research described, there is no inappropriate or offensive content, the authors assume the full responsibility for the contents, correctness and originality of the submissions, including plagiarism and auto-plagiarism, and the ethical constraints are observed (experiments involving human and animal subjects, etc.). The journal will observe a strict peer-reviewing procedure; no manuscript will be accepted or published without peer review.

IJSEE will be published online and made freely available. Printed issues will also be produced. Neither editors, nor authors are remunerated.

The creation of IJSEE has only been possible with the help of IAFOR, the International Academic Forum. I would like to thank the President & CEO of IAFOR, Dr Joseph Haldane, for the fruitful discussions that helped drafting the vision on the mission and future of IJSEE. Last but not least, I would like to thank our Associate Editors, members of the Editorial Board, and people who declared their willingness to help as potential reviewers for their commitment and valuable comments that helped drafting our editorial policies and ensured a successful start on the way to achieving our goals.
