Renewable Energy and Scotland

The late IAFOR Chairman, Professor Stuart D. B. Picken, interviews Colin Donald, Business Editor of the Sunday Herald.

Mr Donald gave a very insightful presentation, entitled "Green Tartan – The Scottish Renewables Challenge", on the various issues Scotland is addressing in the building of a renewable energies infrastructure. Mr Donald explains how he became interested in this topic and what drove him to expand his investigation of the European renewables market, and he and Professor Picken discuss the possible motivations and political agendas behind the decisions carried out by government policy makers. They go into detail about the circumstances involved in Scotland's development of a renewables infrastructure and whether the creation of such an infrastructure could generate the income and political power that would impact other agendas, such as Scottish nationalists calling for independence from the UK. The interview ends with a discussion of the European energy market and what we can expect to see in the coming years.

Mr Donald was a Featured Speaker at The European Conference on the Social Sciences 2015 (ECSS2015) in Brighton, UK.
