Ambassador Federico Mayor Zaragoza (1934-2024)

He was a keynote speaker earlier this year at The International Academic Forum (IAFOR) Paris Conference on Education (PCE2024), when he spoke movingly and powerfully of the need for international cooperation in education, but also for action. In one of his last major addresses, Ambassador Zaragoza reminded us that the preamble to the United Nations’ constitution is a call to action in the name of ‘we the peoples’, and that education is at the heart of that action.

Dr Haldane, Chairman and CEO of IAFOR said ‘I enjoyed the chance to speak with Ambassador Zaragoza about the similarities and differences between IAFOR and UNESCO, and was moved when he complimented me on the work of our forum. His life and work will continue to be an example and inspiration’.

Ambassador Zaragoza also served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of IAFOR partner, The European Center for Peace and Development (ECPD) of the University for Peace (UPEACE) - UN Mandated.
