Editor: Dr Melinda Cowart
Professor Emerita, Texas Woman’s University (TWU), USA

Dr Melinda Cowart is Professor Emerita and former Professor of Bilingual/ESL Teacher Education at the College of Professional Education, Texas Woman’s University (TWU).

Dr Cowart has considerable teaching, mentoring, and editorial experience, and her past professional career in education has been dedicated to exploring how to provide excellence and equity for all, including those who are linguistically, ethnically, or academically diverse. Prior to entering academia on a full-time basis, Dr Cowart taught in bilingual and ESL classrooms. She has far-reaching experience with university school partnerships, having coordinated the University of North Texas Professional Development Schools within the Dallas Independent School District for 13 years.

In her capacity as Professor of Bilingual/ESL Education at TWU, Dr Cowart worked with faculty and students from universities and schools around the world, and championed research and writing regarding the best approaches for educating and providing leadership when addressing the unique needs of second language learners.

Since 2005, Dr Cowart has served as Managing Editor and then Series Editor of the monographic series, Critical Issues in the Education of English Language Learners. In 12 years, while mentoring faculty and guiding international students, she has edited nine completed monographs with the tenth monograph being assembled at this time.

She and her husband, Mr Ron Cowart, have worked extensively with refugee youth and adults, having been recognised for their service by former Texas Governor George W. Bush, and Presidents George Herbert Walker Bush and Bill Clinton. In 2015, Dr Cowart was selected to participate in the nationally recognised OpEd Project as a Public Voices Fellow.

Associate Editors

Dr Hasan Al-Wadi
University of Bahrain, Bahrain

Dr Hasan Al-Wadi is an associate professor of TESOL and language education in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He has been involved with IAFOR for several years as a member of The European Conference on Language Learning Review Committee and as a member of the Editorial Board of the IAFOR Journal on Language Learning. Hasan was also the founder and the managing editor of the International Journal of Bilingual and Monolingual Teachers of English.

Hasan enjoys a wide experience in the language teacher education field. He was a senior lecturer in the English department, College of Health Sciences in the Kingdom of Bahrain, then he moved to Bahrain Teachers College, University of Bahrain and joined the English Language Education department as an assistant Professor of TESOL and Language Education where he was appointed as the Head of the Pre-College Foundation Programme for 4 years. Recently, he has been promoted to be an associate professor in TESOL and English Language Education. Dr Al-Wadi is now a senior fellow to the Higher Education Academy in the UK and a lecturer in the Faculty Development Programmes in the Unit of Teaching Excellence and Leadership at the University of Bahrain. He was awarded his EdD in TESOL, focused on native and non-native English language teaching differences and preparations from the University of Exeter, UK.

Dr Al-Wadi is an active researcher and has gained 3 research grants from the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research at the University of Bahrain, and published several papers in international journals. His research interests centre on teaching English as an EFL/ESL, English language teachers’ cognition and knowledge, teacher education programmes, curriculum development and critical pedagogy and critical applied linguistics in TESOL.

Dr Murielle El Hajj Nahas
Lusail University, Qatar

Dr Murielle El Hajj Nahas holds a PhD in French Language and Literature from the Lebanese University, Lebanon. She is currently Assistant Professor and Director of Lusail University Press (LU Press) at Lusail University, Qatar. She is also Associate Editor of the IAFOR Journal of Literature & Librarianship, (IAFOR), Japan, as well as Editorial Board Member of In Analysis, revue transdisciplinaire de psychanalyse et sciences, Elsevier Masson SAS, France. Her domain of research focuses on psychoanalysis of literature, the perspective on the unconscious in literary study, the roles of the instances involved in analytical/critical praxis, and the relation between literature and psychoanalysis. Her research interests include analysis of written narrative structure and focalization; comparative studies of literary genres; discourse analysis and semantics; French linguistics, literature, modernism, and postmodernism studies; gender studies; literary semiotics and semiology; psychoanalysis; psychoanalytic criticism and textoanalysis; rhetoric and stylistics; and schizoanalysis. She has published book chapters, original articles, academic interviews, translated articles, book reviews and analyses, as well as poems. Dr Najwa Saba ’Ayon
Rafik Hariri University, Lebanon

Dr Najwa Saba ’Ayon is a full-time associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Rafik Hariri University, Lebanon. She is the Chairperson of the Languages and Liberal Arts Department, the advisor of the English Language Program, and the coordinator of all academic English, communication, and Intensive English courses in the college.

Saba ’Ayon has a BA in English Language, a teaching diploma in TEFL, as well as an MA in TEFL from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, and a Doctorate of Education (EdD) from the University of Sussex, UK. She has great deal of experience teaching English as a foreign language (EFL). Besides teaching English courses, she has taught elective courses, namely Fundamentals of Education, Intercultural Communication, and Public Speaking. Moreover, she has published and presented in national and international conferences on academic integrity, flipped learning, intercultural communication, student motivation, collaborative learning in ESP courses, as well as EFL teachers’ conceptions of teaching and their practice. She is interested in teacher training and development, ESP, intercultural communication, and preparation of professional communicators.

Recently, Dr Saba ’Ayon served as an editor for Sage Open and a senior reviewer of abstracts in The IAFOR International Conference on Education – Dubai 2017 and 2018. She is a reviewer for Scientific Publishing Research.

Saba ‘Ayon was recognised for her teaching strategies and received her university’s Teaching Effectiveness Award in 2016.

Dr Shiao-Wei Chu
National Pingtung University, Taiwan

Dr Shiao-Wei Chu is an assistant professor at the National Pingtung University in Pingtung, Taiwan. Shiao-Wei received her doctoral degree (PhD), with an emphasis in professional development for ESL and EFL instructors, from the College of Education at the University of Idaho in 2013. She holds a master’s degree in TESOL from Chaoyang University of Technology in Taichung, Taiwan. Her research focuses are curriculum and assessment design in the field of English as a Second/Foreign Language teaching and learning and professional development for English language teachers in both face-to-face and web-based environments. She worked as an ESL lecturer at the University of Idaho for three and half years, and as an EFL teacher in grades 3-11 for approximately 8 years in Taiwan.

Dr Joanie Crandall
University of Northern British Columbia, Canada

Dr Joanie Crandall, PhD (University of Saskatchewan), MA (University of Toronto), BEd (Queen’s University), BA (University of Ottawa), is Assistant Professor of Indigenous Education at University of Northern British Columbia. She has been a teacher, principal, college director, instructional coach, multi-disciplinary research centre coordinator, university lecturer, consultant, and online graduate studies educator and supervisor, and has experience in educational media and instructional design. She is passionate about equity, diversity, inclusivity, and decolonizing education through context-responsive, culturally relevant, interdisciplinary, social justice approaches. In her travels, she has learned a little of many different Indigenous languages: Nêhiyawêwin, Inuktitut, Inuvialuktun, and Gwich’in in person; and Wolastoqey, Anishininiimowin, Dënesųłiné, Tłı̨chǫ, Mi’kmaq, Anishinaabemowin, Saulteaux, and Dakelh online. She has published on teacher agency, cultural books, decolonizing reading theory and dual language books, and Indigenous videographic and musical work. She has publications forthcoming on activist allyship, Tribal Critical Race Theory, outdoor education, Indigenous music as literature, and decolonizing developmentalist discourses.

Dr Saadia Elamin
University of Khartoum, Sudan

Dr Saadia Elamin, Associate Professor of Translation at the University of Khartoum, Sudan, holds a Doctorate of Science and Techniques of Translation (now Translation Studies) (Arabic–English–French) from the Higher School for Interpreters and Translators (ESIT) of the Sorbonne, 1984. Since then, she has been teaching translation and interpreting, at the graduate and undergraduate levels, in a number of universities in Sudan, Libya and Saudi Arabia.

Saadia Elamin has published papers in her three working languages in the main areas of her research interests, namely translation theories and approaches, teaching translation and interpreting, and translation university programmes. The papers are published in local journals (Journal of Khartoum University – Sudan, Journal of King Saud University – Saudi Arabia), regional (Jordan Journal of Modern Languages and Literature (JJMLL), and international journals (Forum of John Benjamins Publishing Company, and Turjuman of Tangier School of Translation). She has also participated in and attended conferences on translation, the most recent of which was the 13th International Post-graduate Conference in Translation and Interpreting (IPCITI), Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, UK in 2017. She is a reviewer for the Arab World English Journal for Translation and Literary Studies AWEJ, and King Saud University Journal – Arts.

Dr John Michael Villar Faller
FPT University - Hoa Lac Campus, Ha Noi, Viet Nam

Dr John Michael Villar Faller holds degrees in English and English Language Studies (Leyte Normal University and Lyceum of the Philippines University), and International Management (University of Liverpool). With 23 years of academic and administrative experience from various countries such as the Philippines, Sultanate of Oman, Kingdom of Bahrain, Mexico and Viet Nam, he is a research enthusiast, paper presenter, and language and literature education and IELTS trainer. He serves as Senior Paper Reviewer of various international conferences held in Asia and North America. Currently, he serves as Associate Editor of IJWLTT, IJCTE, and IJAITL. In addition, he works with the editorial review boards of IJKM, IJGBL, IJCALLT, IJHCITP, JCAD, IJDET, IJTEPD, IJTEE, IJSEUS, FET, IJTIAL, and IJCDLM. Dr Mikel Garant
Beijing Institute of Technology, China

Dr Mikel Garant is Professor of Applied Linguistics at the College of Global Talent at Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai. His academic interests include transnational video podcasting and online learning, translation and EFL education and cultural studies. He is the author or co-author of over 10 books and edited collections and published dozens of refereed articles. He is the Chief Editor of the Current Trends in Translation Teaching and Learning E journal and is on the editorial boards of several leading journals.

Mikel Garant earned his BA in Political Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, his MSc in Teaching English for Specific Purposes at Aston University, Birmingham, UK, and his doctorate in Organizational Communication at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. He has also been a Japanese National Scholar at Nara University of Education and Osaka University.

He is a certified English Teacher for Finnish public schools and also been involved in projects funded by The Academy of Finland, The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and other sources. For over 20 years, he held various full-time tenured posts and is currently a docent at the University of Helsinki in Finland. He has been a visiting professor at leading institutions all over the world.

Dr Yuemin He
Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia, USA

Yuemin He holds a PhD in English language and literature from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and earned her BA and MA in English from Sichuan University. She has worked in higher education for more than three decades. Currently she is an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia. Yuemin was a recipient of many awards, including a National Endowment of Humanities Fellowship, a Japan Study Association Fellowship, a Loser-Savkar Fellowship, and multiple college awards. She has written on composition pedagogy, Asian American literature, Buddhist American literature, and East Asian literature and visual art. Her essays appear in The Emergence of Buddhist American Literature (SUNY), Religion and the Arts, Chinese Translators Journal, Inquiry, and Teaching Approaches to Asian American Literature (MLA). Her poetry translations have been anthologized in Oxford Anthology of Modern and Contemporary American Poetry (2nd ed.) and published in more than twenty literary magazines and journals, such as Metamorphoses, Ezra, The Cincinnati Review, Copper Nickel, Rattle Poetry, Chinese Literature Today, and Renditions. In her spare time, Dr He also writes short stories, which have been selected into The Northern Virginia Review, Cha, Yuan Yang… She is dedicated to advancing the values of inclusion, excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

Dr Hjalmar Punla Hernandez
University of the Philippines Los Baños, Philippines

Dr Hjalmar Punla Hernandez obtained his PhD in Linguistics with Specialization in Applied Linguistics and an MA in Education with Specialization in English Language Teaching from the Philippine Normal University–Manila, the Philippines’ National Center for Teacher Education by virtue of Republic Act 9647. He holds a Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines–Santa Rosa Campus. His research areas and publications focus on academic research writing, discourse analysis, English language education, English syntax, and world Englishes. He has presented papers in international and national conferences. He has served as an editorial board member and a peer reviewer in academic research journals such as the REGISTER Journal, Journal of Languages for Specific Purposes, and Asia-Pacific Social Science Review, which publish studies on language education, language studies, linguistics, and related fields. In 2019, he bagged the Outstanding Paper Award for the study “Filipino Graduate Students’ Attitudes toward Teaching Educated Philippine English: A Sample from a Premier Teacher Education Institution” at the Education University of Hong Kong. He also earned the International Publication Award for the same study at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). He is a permanent faculty member of UPLB, handling language-related courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Dr Habsah Hussin
Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia

Dr Habsah Hussin obtained her doctorate (Applied Linguistics and ELT) from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom; Master by research (English Language Studies) from the National University, Malaysia (UKM); and Bachelor of Education (TESL) from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She worked as a TESL teacher affiliated to the Ministry of Education, Malaysia and senior lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for many years before moving to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2011. Currently, she is a senior lecturer at the Department of Language Education and Humanities, Faculty of Educational Studies, UPM.

Habsah Hussin teaching, research interests, publications and presentations at conferences are in the areas of ESL Methodology, English Literature, Thinking Skills, Academic Writing, Learner Autonomy and policies related to English Language Teaching in Malaysia. Habsah’s current research project is on helping disadvantaged primary school learners aged 7 to 12 years old in three different contexts namely in remote areas, in the squatter or urban poor category and those living in orphanages, to have greater access to Bahasa Melayu (the national language), the English language and Science subjects via the Modules of Learning for the three subjects developed based on the findings of her research. She also has considerable experience in reviewing articles for various journals and examining doctoral theses.

Dr Andrew Leichsenring
Tamagawa University, Japan

Dr Andrew Leichsenring is an associate professor at Tamagawa University, Japan. He has been an educator for twenty-four years, working in Australia, Japan, and South Korea during that time. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Teacher Education from Queensland University of Technology and an Australian primary school teaching licence. He also obtained a Master of Education from Queensland University of Technology, a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning from Charles Darwin University, a Bachelor of International Business from Griffith University, and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Queensland. In addition to his editorial work with several publishers, he has widely published his research on various aspects of teaching and learning. Dr Eleni Meletiadou
London Metropolitan University, London UK
Dr Eleni Meletiadou is a Course Leader/Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at London Metropolitan University, London, UK. She is an enthusiastic educational assessment, peer learning/mentoring, and writing scholar with a doctorate degree in Applied Linguistics (Language Assessment) from the University of Cyprus, an MA in Applied Linguistics (Education) from the University of Cyprus, an MSc in International Human Resource Management and Employment Relations (with CIPD Level 7 accreditation) from Queen Mary University, London, an MEd in TESOL from Hellenic Open University in Greece and a BA in English Language and Literature from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece.

Eleni Meletiadou’s global research experience extends to 35 countries including Cyprus, Greece, and the United Kingdom as she is the Dissemination Grant Coordinator of the EU-funded Eurofam Network. She is an established academic writer and international conference and workshop presenter. Her research concentrates on Education for Social Justice, peer learning/mentoring/coaching, inclusive assessment, writing, e-learning, multilingualism, intercultural communication, equality, diversity and inclusion, higher education, blended learning. Her handbook of research on Policies and Practices for Assessing Inclusive Teaching and Learning has just been published and her forthcoming handbook of research on Promising Practices for Advancing Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education is currently in press. She has also published her work in various peer-reviewed journals and written several chapters in books.

Dr Elena Mishieva
Independent Academic, Russia

Dr Elena Mishieva is a former Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Area Studies at Moscow State University, Russia, from which she has a PhD in linguistics. She has a number of publications on discourse analysis, online youth communication, and ELT, among which is a state approved EFL textbook for Russian schools. She is a member of the National Association of Applied Linguistics (Russia), and the National Association of Teachers of English (Russia).

Lena’s current academic research interests concentrate on cultural and national identity and related state educational policy, including ways of developing cultural identity by means of ELT.

Dr Leonardo Munalim
The Philippine Women's University-School of Arts & Sciences and School of Education, Philippines

Dr Leonardo O. Munalim holds a in PhD in Applied Linguistics, an MA in Teaching English Language Arts (both from Philippine Normal University-Manila, The National Center for Teacher Education), and a Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in English. He studied Spanish courses at Instituto Cervantes de Manila, and passed the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera. He is currently finishing a Graduate Certificate in Distance Education at the University of the Philippines-Open University. Leonardo publishes regularly and widely in local and international journals. He is editor-in-chief of Asia-Pacific Research Digest of Eastern Samar State University, Philippines; editorial board member of Journal of English as an International Language, and a reviewer for three journals of Philippine Normal University. He teaches Spanish and English courses at The Philippine Women’s University-School of Arts & Sciences and School of Education. He was a recipient of PWU’s Meritorious Award for his innovative teaching. He also serves as a K-12 book reviewer and editor at the Department of Education, and gives write-shops with K-12 book authors all over the country.

Dr Akihiro Saito
Tokyo University of Science, Japan

Dr Akihiro Saito is an associate professor in the Institute of Arts and Sciences, Tokyo University of Science, Japan. His research focuses on using empirical and interpretive methods and discourse theory with diverse data types to gain an insight into the psychology and sociology of language learning, education policy, and intercultural communication. He is particularly interested in understanding how people’s behaviors are constrained through social structure and how they exercise agency against that structure. He has published in the International Journal of Applied Linguistics (Wiley-Blackwell), System (Elsevier), and other recognized journals.

Dr Claudia Sánchez
Texas Woman's University, USA

Dr Claudia Sánchez holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a doctoral degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Bilingual education. She earned both degrees at Texas A&M University-College Station.

The focus of Claudia Sánchez’s scholarly work is best practices for second language teaching and learning, Spanish language literacy and development, and bilingual/ESL teacher preparation. From 2004 to 2009, Dr Sánchez pioneered the TWU bilingual program’s grant-writing efforts and secured over four million dollars in federal funds to prepare ESL and bilingual teachers for the two largest districts in the North Texas area – Dallas Independent School District and Fort Worth Independent School District.

Dr Bethe Schoenfeld
Western Galilee College, Israel

Dr Bethe Schoenfeld was born in Yokosuka, Japan, in 1958, but lived in the USA before moving to Israel in 1981. She has been teaching English in Israel at both the secondary and tertiary levels since 1985. She is former Head of English Studies at the Western Galilee College and the current Coordinator for Exam Writing.

She has published two books, Dysfunctional Families in the Wessex Novels of Thomas Hardy and The Routine of War: How One Northern Israeli Community Coped During the Second Lebanon War. She has collaborated on 3 EAP textbooks: A.C.E.S. 1– Advanced College English Skills, A.C.E.S. 2– Advanced College English Skills, The Big Picture – Strategies for College English at the Intermediate Level, and The Latest and the Greatest (edited texts and questions for reading comprehension at the Advanced Level).

Dr Meliha Simsek
University of Health Sciences, Istanbul, Turkey

Dr Meliha R. Simsek is currently an assistant professor of foreign languages at the University of Health Sciences (Istanbul, Turkey). She has been teaching English to a multinational group of medical students at the preparatory division, and giving ESP courses for the dental students since 2017. She got her BA (2004), MA (2006), and PhD (2009) in ELT from Dokuz Eylul University (Izmir).

Meliha R. Simsek has served as an English instructor at the School of Foreign Languages (Dokuz Eylul University), and as a teacher educator at the Faculty of Education in Middle East Technical University (Ankara), and therefore been working with both EFL learners and teacher candidates for the last fifteen years.

Her research interests include applied linguistics, ELT methodology, materials evaluation and development, and teacher education.

Nina I. Adriano is a faculty member of the College of Education of the Bulacan State University-Bustos, the Philippines. Her belief in lifelong learning led her to pursue graduate studies in Language and Literacy Education from the University of the Philippines-Open University after completing her master’s degree in public administration. Dr Aliya Aimoldina
Lomonosov Moscow State University, Kazakhstan

Dr Aliya Aimoldina is a senior lecturer in Linguistics and Head of the Research & Innovation Department at Kazakhstan Branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Philology Department, in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Her main research interests include the investigation of language proficiency and language education, bilingualism, multilingualism, cross-cultural communication, specifically, intercultural business communication and business discourse in the Kazakh, Russian and English languages in the context of multilingual and multicultural space of Kazakhstan.

She is a member of the International Association for World Englishes Inc. (IAWE), the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS), and a participant of international research projects on the issues of ethnic and language identity, multilingual language policy, Kazakh-Russian bilingualism interactions.

Dr Hazim Al-Dilaimy

Dr Matea Butković
University of Rijeka, Faculty of Medicine, Croatia

Dr Matea Butković earned her MA degree in English language and literature and German language and literature (double major) from the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Humanities and Social Studies (Croatia) in 2010 and her doctorate degree in American literature from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts (Slovenia) in 2017. She is an EFL instructor with experience in teaching in the public and private higher education institutions. In 2019, she received the Faculty Excellence Award from the American higher education institution Rochester Institute of Technology (Zagreb campus, Croatia). She has translated books and manuals related to teacher competencies and promoting children’s mental health. Dr May Olaug Horverak
Birkenes Learning Centre, Norway

Dr May Olaug Horverak is currently a headmaster at Birkenes Learning Centre in Norway, a school for adult immigrants who need to learn Norwegian or to get an education, and for Norwegian adults who need special education. She has a PhD in English linguistics with a focus on writing instruction in upper secondary school from a genre-pedagogical perspective. She has also published articles comparing different language learning contexts and different attitudes to the use of L1 in L2 English teaching.

May has experience from teaching in lower secondary school, upper secondary school and from teacher training programmes at universities in Norway. In addition, she has a background as a child welfare worker, and she currently runs a project called «A systematic approach to mastering life – a fivestep motivation method» (SAMM) in the southern region of Norway. Dr Reza Kafipour received his PhD in TESL from the University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia, in 2010. Prior to that,in 2004, he earned an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Islamic Azad University, Shiraz, Iran, and a BA in English Translator Training (First Class Hons) from Islamic Azad University, Shiraz, Iran in 2001. In 2013, he also obtained a Statement of Accomplishment in Leading Strategic Innovation in Organizations from Vanderbilt University, USA. Dr Kafipour has conducted research and published in the fields of Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), E-learning, and language education. His publications cover various topics, including language learning strategies, translation studies, vocabulary learning, and educational technology. Currently he is involved in a research project titled “A cross-cultural study of differential item functioning analysis of beliefs about Language Learning Inventory (BALLI).” This project explores cross-cultural variations in beliefs about language learning. Dr Kafipour has received recognition for his contributions, including being named a Top Researcher at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2013. Dr Debbie Meharg
Edinburgh Napier University, UK

Debbie Meharg is a Lecturer and Senior Teaching Fellow in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. Meharg’s research interests sit within the Centre for Computing Educational Research (CCER) and focus on students transitioning from further education institutions into higher education. She has a long track record of working with students in both further education and higher education and her personal experience of working in both these environments shape her current research interests. More recently her research interests have expanded to include student transitions into Graduate Apprenticeship (GA) programmes.

Alongside her research activities Debbie is an active member of the teaching team within the School of Computing where she is Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Software Development (Graduate Apprenticeship) programme and module leader on Business Intelligence and Reporting modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Dr Nourreddine Menyani holds a PhD from Ibn Tofail Kenitra University – Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences – in the department of English. Dr Tingjia Wang is an Assistant Professor at the Hiroshima University Writing Center, Japan. Michael Menchaca publishes research in online learning, social justice with technology, and integrating technology into teaching and learning at all levels. He has served as principal investigator for state and federal grants. Dr Daniel Hoffman is an educator and researcher in the field of digital learning. His research focuses on the design of interactive experiences and their impact on learning and engagement. This work is interdisciplinary in nature and takes place at the intersection of cognitive science, education and computer science. Seeing great potential in emerging human-computer interaction techniques, Dan studies interactivity and its ability to act as a conceptual and procedural scaffold in digital environments. In 2013, Dan earned his doctorate in Instructional Technology & Media from Teachers College, Columbia University. Before joining the University of Hawaii, he worked as a Senior Education Analyst at Kamehameha Schools. His background includes classroom teaching, the New York City Teaching Fellows program, and designing software for Intel and the Games for Learning Institute. He was born in Vermont and enjoys building computers, watching movies, and listening to podcasts.

Dr Devayani Tirthali
Independent Researcher

Dr Devayani Tirthali is an educational technology researcher and a research design consultant mentoring early-career researchers and social-sector professionals. She has 20 years of experience implementing technology for learning, 12 years out of which as a researcher. She earned her doctorate in Instructional Technology and Media from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research interests under the umbrella of “Education in Everyday Living” span a variety of locations: social media, virtual worlds, and gaming; MOOCs and online learning; as well as educational technology in schools and colleges. She has published in international journals, served as a reviewer, and delivered keynote addresses on MOOCs and the future of education.

Previously she has worked at the Institute for Learning Technologies, Teachers College, as a Research Associate evaluating technology enhanced multi-year NSF funded projects in school and university settings. At Brown University, Devayani worked with faculty to promote purposeful use of technology in teaching and iterative research design.

She is passionate about exploring innovative methods of research to explore educational processes in non-traditional settings in underserved areas and developing countries such as India.

Dr Heloísa Orsi Koch Delgado

Dr Heloísa Orsi Koch Delgado holds a PhD in Letters (with emphasis on Language Studies) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and a Master degree in Education (emphasis on English Language Teaching and Cultural Education) by the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul. She has postgraduate qualifications in Tertiary Education (PUCRS) and Terminology (University Pompeu Fabra, Spain) and holds a BA in Translation Studies (PUCRS). She has a degree in distance education, with an international EaD tutor certificate. She was a professor at the School of Humanities at PUCRS from 1994 to 2019, coordinated the Department of Foreign Languages from 2010 to 2016 and was part of the faculty of the lato sensu postgraduate courses in English Language Teaching and Translation Studies. Heloísa was also the director of the International Office at PUCRS for 3 years (2016-2019) and a pedagogical coordinator of LEXIS: PUCRS’ Language Center for 5 years (2015-2019), having supervised more than 300 language courses.

Heloísa has experience as a translator of technical and scientific languages and as a teacher of higher education for over 30 years, working mainly on the following subjects: English language teaching, (teaching of) translation of specialized languages / terminology and technologies in teaching. She has been an invited ad hoc reviewer for national and international journals of language teaching and related areas. She is the author of DicTrans (Online Multilingual Dictionary about the Bipolar Disorder) and a member of the editorial committee of IAFOR (International Academic Forum). She has given lectures in Brazil and abroad and has articles published in national and internationally peer-reviewed journals. In 2019, she received a funding grant from Erasmus + (Staff Mobility Program) at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, Ireland.

Dr Mikel Garant
Beijing Institute of Technology, China

Dr Mikel Garant is Professor of Applied Linguistics at the College of Global Talent at Beijing Institute of Technology, Zhuhai. His academic interests include transnational video podcasting and online learning, translation and EFL education and cultural studies. He is the author or co-author of over 10 books and edited collections and published dozens of refereed articles. He is the Chief Editor of the Current Trends in Translation Teaching and Learning E journal and is on the editorial boards of several leading journals.

Mikel Garant earned his BA in Political Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, his MSc in Teaching English for Specific Purposes at Aston University, Birmingham, UK, and his doctorate in Organizational Communication at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. He has also been a Japanese National Scholar at Nara University of Education and Osaka University.

He is a certified English Teacher for Finnish public schools and also been involved in projects funded by The Academy of Finland, The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and other sources. Dr Elena Mishieva

Dr Elena Mishieva is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Area Studies at Moscow State University, Russia, from which she has a PhD in linguistics. She has a number of publications on discourse analysis, online youth communication, and ELT, among which is a state approved EFL textbook for Russian schools. She is a member of the National Association of Applied Linguistics (Russia), and the National Association of Teachers of English (Russia).

Dr Leonardo O. Dr Esther Ntuli is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Teaching and Educational Studies at Idaho State University (ISU). Her expertise and training is in curriculum and instruction, instructional technology, and early childhood education. Dr Heeseon Jang

Dr Heeseon Jang achieved a PhD degree at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and worked in the State University of New Jersey (Rutgers).He is currently a Professor in the department of convergence software, Pyeongtaek University, Korea. Debbie Meharg
Edinburgh Napier University, UK

Debbie Meharg is a Lecturer and Senior Teaching Fellow in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. Meharg’s research interests sit within the Centre for Computing Educational Research (CCER) and focus on students transitioning from further education institutions into higher education. She has a long track record of working with students in both further education and higher education and her personal experience of working in both these environments shape her current research interests. Dr Pearl Subban is a lecturer in Teacher Education at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. She is currently the Course Leader for the Master of Education program, and Acting Director of Graduate programs. Pearl’s research interests are embedded within accommodating student diversity, and differentiated teaching and learning strategies to accommodate these needs.

With over two decades in the education sector, in both South Africa and Australia, Pearl is well-positioned to reflect on catering for additional student needs, and on how teachers can diversify their programming to include all students. Emanating from a social justice perspective, Pearl’s main focus is on assisting learners in contemporary classrooms, utilising available resources to ensure that learning is relevant and personal. Pearl is an active researcher, and has been fortunate to work within funded research projects within Australia, dealing with marginalisation and social justice issues. Pearl currently teaches in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and offers support to in-service teachers through professional development units.

Pearl’s approach to research is collaborative, and draws on assessment and appraisal from her peers to ensure that both research output and teaching contributions are effectively met. Prior to joining the higher education sector, Pearl enjoyed several years as a high school teacher, which became the platform for her current position as an educational researcher. She has subsequently presented papers and presentations at a range of national and international conferences. Her current portfolio includes the supervision of both masters and doctoral students covering a range of global issues. Currently, as Course Leader of the Master of Education suite, she strives to facilitate equitable programs that accommodate a range of student needs. Pearl is on the Editorial Board for two major journals, using her knowledge, experience and skill to inform the contemporary field.

Dr Anemona Peres
European Border and Coast Guard Agency

Dr Anemona Peres is a psychologist and has specialised in educational leadership and quality assurance. She manages the Training Support Sector at Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, where she is responsible for promoting the European lifelong learning policies across the EU, border management education and training, quality assurance and educational technology. She has managed numerous international academic – practitioners’ collaborative projects, developing a wide range of exchange-mobility programmes and educational products, i.e. European sectoral qualifications frameworks, joint degrees, curriculum design and teacher training methodologies, quality assurance systems for training providers, accreditation and recognition of all types of learning, European courses and curricula, common core reference learning, and occupational standards in border management. Otgontugs Banzragch joined the faculty of National University of Mongolia for the first time in 1995 as a lecturer of economics. Luisa Daniele works at the Study Centre of ANPAL – the Italian Agency for Active Labour Market Policies (institution supervised by the Ministry of Labour).

Heloísa holds a PhD in Letters (with emphasis on Language Studies) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and a Masters degree in Education (emphasis on English Language Teaching and Cultural Education) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). She has postgraduate qualifications in Tertiary Education (PUCRS) and Terminology (University Pompeu Fabra, Spain) and holds a BA in Translation Studies (PUCRS). Heloísa also has a degree in distance education, with an international EaD tutor certificate.

Dr Delgado was a professor at the School of Humanities at PUCRS from 1994 to 2019, coordinated the Department of Foreign Languages from 2010 to 2016 and was part of the faculty of the lato sensu postgraduate courses in English Language Teaching and Translation Studies. Heloísa was the director of the International Office at PUCRS for 3 years (2016-2019) and a pedagogical coordinator of LEXIS: PUCRS’ Language Center for 5 years (2015-2019), having supervised more than 300 language courses. She has experience as a translator of technical and scientific language and as a teacher of higher education for over 30 years, working mainly on the following subjects: English language teaching, (teaching of) translation of specialised languages/terminology and technologies in teaching. She has been an invited as ad hoc reviewer for national and international journals of language teaching and related areas. She is the author of DicTrans (Online Multilingual Dictionary about the Bipolar Disorder). She has given lectures in Brazil and abroad and has articles published in national and internationally peer-reviewed journals. Dr Yuemin He
Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia, USA

Yuemin He holds a PhD in English language and literature from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and earned her BA and MA in English from Sichuan University. She has worked in higher education for more than three decades. Currently she is an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia.

Dr. He was a recipient of many awards, including a National Endowment of Humanities Fellowship, a Japan Study Association Fellowship, a Loser-Savkar Fellowship, and multiple college awards. She has written on composition pedagogy, Asian American literature, Buddhist American literature, and East Asian literature and visual art. Her essays appear in The Emergence of Buddhist American Literature (SUNY), Religion and the Arts, Chinese Translators Journal, Inquiry, and Teaching Approaches to Asian American Literature (MLA). Her poetry translations have been anthologized in Oxford Anthology of Modern and Contemporary American Poetry (2nd ed.) and published in more than twenty literary magazines and journals, such as Metamorphoses, Ezra, The Cincinnati Review, Copper Nickel, Rattle Poetry, Chinese Literature Today, and Renditions. Dr Habsah Hussin
Independent Researcher, Malaysia

Dr Habsah Hussin obtained her doctorate (Applied Linguistics and ELT) from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom; Master by research (English Language Studies) from the National University, Malaysia (UKM); and Bachelor of Education (TESL) from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She worked as a TESL teacher affiliated to the Ministry of Education, Malaysia and senior lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for many years before moving to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2011.  She was a senior lecturer at the Department of Language Education and Humanities, Faculty of Educational Studies, UPM.

Habsah Hussin teaching, research interests, publications and presentations at conferences are in the areas of ESL Methodology, English Literature, Thinking Skills, Academic Writing, Learner Autonomy and policies related to English Language Teaching in Malaysia. Habsah’s current research project is on helping disadvantaged primary school learners aged 7 to 12 years old in three different contexts namely in remote areas, in the squatter or urban poor category and those living in orphanages, to have greater access to Bahasa Melayu (the national language), the English language and Science subjects via the Modules of Learning for the three subjects developed based on the findings of her research. Dr Ana García-Díaz has a PhD in Education from the Complutense University of Madrid. Her doctoral research gathered comparative information regarding different teaching methods in schools in Scotland and Spain, looking to find out the teaching methodology that would highly develop self-regulated learning in primary school children. Dr Mukesh Yadav

Dr Mukesh Yadav is currently working as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Arts, Nims University Rajasthan, India. He has almost eighteen years experience in teaching English Language and Literature and Criticism (South Asian Diasporic Studies). He has published academic research in accredited and refereed periodicals focusing on Postcolonial literature, diaspora, war, social studies, women’s literature and literary theory and criticism and philosophy. He has also supervised and examined a number of Masters and PhD. dissertations. During his positions in the department he has gained extensive experience in the fields of teaching and curriculum preparation and evaluation.

Joyce Lee Yang has served in United States K-12 public education for over 20 years. She’s held positions as a teacher and school site administrator at traditional public and charter schools in California, Minnesota, and Illinois. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at Biola University in the Teacher Preparation Program. Her research interests include how women principals balance work and life, how principals manage the growing responsibilities of the role and what systemic changes might help address burn out, and assessing learning without traditional letter grades.
