Interrogating Social Movements

Earlier this year, MediAsia 2018 featured a conference theme of “Fearful Futures” that encouraged scholars to reflect upon role of arts, humanities, media and cultural studies in the contemporary global context of information/disinformation exchange, national and international tensions and polarised politics. This upcoming issue of IAFOR Journal of Media, Communication and Film extends this theme with a specific focus on social movements. It encourages scholars to examine how social movements form, spread and are represented in our contemporary social media age; to evaluate the impact of social movements; and to consider the national and international contexts of social movements.

Authors are encouraged to consider the implications of social movements within specific socio-political and cultural contexts.

Topics can include, but are not limited to:

  • Social media and social movements
  • Disinformation and social movements
  • Misappropriation of social movements
  • Class, gender, race and social movements
  • Social movements and journalism
  • Social movements and documentary
  • Social movements and film/television/photography

Please submit a 250 word abstract through the IAFOR Journal of Media, Communication & Film online submission system, or to ijmcf@iafor.org, by January 15, 2018. Authors will be notified of initial acceptance by January 30, 2019. Please note that official acceptance of the work is contingent upon peer review. Full papers are due March 1, 2019.

All abstracts and papers should be original works, and not be under consideration by other publications or conferences.

Please note that papers already submitted to or published in IAFOR Conference Proceedings are not accepted for publication in any of IAFOR’s journals.

See here to check the Author Guidelines before making your submission.
