The International Academic Forum (IAFOR) supports original research by facilitating and encouraging research partnerships on an individual and institutional level. Through the IAFOR Research Institute, the IAFOR Global Partnership Programme and IAFOR grants and scholarships, IAFOR engages with global and event partners as well as an extensive network of individuals to both generate research and provide appropriate event and publication platforms for its evaluation, presentation and dissemination.
Publications & Media
IAFOR disseminates interdisciplinary research and ideas to a global academic audience through its publications and audiovisual content, making it freely available online and therefore accessible to people all over the world. IAFOR's publications include 13 international, peer-reviewed online journals and an online magazine, THINK, all of which are freely available to read, download and share through IAFOR’s commitment to Open Access.
Since 2009, The International Academic Forum (IAFOR) has welcomed over 16,000 academics to its conferences held in Kobe (Japan), Tokyo (Japan), Brighton (UK), Barcelona (Spain), Hawaii (USA) and Dubai (UAE). Approximately 40 interdisciplinary conferences are held each year, covering a broad range of subject matter. Each event is assigned an Organising Committee made up of distinguished experts in relevant fields who take charge of developing rich programmes of speakers.
Over the years hundreds of leading figures from a diverse range of fields and industries have spoken at IAFOR events, where both established and up-and-coming academics present their research, receive feedback, start conversations and forge new connections in a stimulating, inclusive and nurturing environment. Following IAFOR events, presenters are encouraged to deposit their research in the Conference Proceedings, which are Open Access research repositories.
IAFOR runs three arts awards, each aiming to promote and nurture activity in their respective media. The IAFOR Documentary Photography Award supports the professional development of emerging documentary photographers and photojournalists through mentorship, equipment and monetary rewards for winners. The IAFOR Documentary Film Award is an open competition that seeks to inspire activity in the medium and reward both professional and up-and-coming documentary filmmakers. The IAFOR Vladimir Devidé Haiku Award is an open competition for haiku written in the English language.
Grants & Scholarships
IAFOR is dedicated to helping young scholars achieve their research and academic goals, while also encouraging them to apply the principles of interdisciplinary study to their work. IAFOR offers travel and accommodation grants and full or partial scholarships covering conference registration fees to PhD students and early career academics who might not otherwise have the financial resources to be able to attend our academic conferences.
