IAFOR is delighted to support the Nagoya University Model United Nations (NUMUN) as a Diamond Sponsor. The partnership showcases both organisations’ commitment to fostering academic growth and developing future policymakers and international relations leaders.
By partnering with NUMUN and Nagoya University, IAFOR remains dedicated to the cultivation of young scholars and professionals poised to make impactful contributions to global conversations. Together, we are excited to mentor the next generation of academics and policymakers in shaping a brighter global future.
About the Nagoya University Model United Nations
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students act as delegates of different countries and attempt to solve real world issues using the viewpoints and policies of the countries they represent. MUN helps students to understand the principles of the UN and how it functions: once a student has registered for an MUN conference, they will be allocated to a committee (at random or the student’s own choice) and receive a country to represent. The programme offers opportunities to explore and propose solutions to real-world problems, including political issues that directly impact people around the world. Many of today’s leaders—including those that work in the UN—are former MUN participants.
Student-delegates can participate in many MUN conferences all over the world organised by universities, high schools, nonprofit organisations, and other educational groups, offline or online. Nagoya University recently entered this group of MUN organisers, and is gaining momentum: this is the third iteration of the NUMUN since 2022, with an increasing number of participants coming from different backgrounds every year. NUMUN’s 2024 Organising Committee of the 2024 Nagoya University Model United Nations is composed of 19 critical, steadfast thinkers from different nations of the world studying different topics in their own majors, promising interdisciplinary dialogues and proposals.
The IAFOR Undergraduate Research Symposium (IURS)
IAFOR is expanding upon this partnership by integrating the spirit of NUMUN into its own conference programme by introducing the IAFOR Undergraduate Research Symposium (IURS) to major cities across the world in 2024. IURS is an international symposium with academic capacity-building programmes tailored specifically for undergraduate students to acquire and develop presentation skills, and subsequently present high-level conference presentations onsite at an international IAFOR conference. IAFOR firmly believes that the introduction and nurturing of extraordinary young academics within professional academic settings benefits the Forum’s mission and academia at-large.
The inaugural multi-city IURS2024 series will be held in London, Incheon, and Tokyo, in conjunction with IAFOR’s education conferences.
IURS is a wonderful opportunity to involve undergraduate students in the international academic community. Through the Symposium, students can immerse themselves in professional academic conferences, as well as develop career-building skills and participate in the international academic conference environment. Through a two-day programme, experienced facilitators will train the students on how to formulate their thoughts and communicate their ideas via academic poster presentations through an online workshop. These skills will then be demonstrated onsite to their peers and international academics alike during the affiliated IAFOR conference.
In an effort to enhance academic accessibility for exceptional young researchers, IAFOR has committed to subsidising the registration fee to participate in the Symposium. Students will be selected for the Symposium on the basis of their presentation proposals.
