2023 Publication Timeline & Themed Issue

Volume 12 Issue 1 – Themed Issue: World Fairy Tales and Folklore

*Submissions open: Sunday January 4, 2023
Submissions close:
Friday February 1 (9am JST), 2023
Target Publication
: May 31, 2023

* Because of very heavy submission numbers, the submission period was updated (shortened) on September 2, 2022. We apologise if this is an inconvenience.

Aims & Scope:

Please only submit short or regular papers related to the themed issue (children and young adult literature, not librarianship). Contributors may discuss literature and comparative literature on the folklore and fairy tales of the world, comment upon one fable, folk story or fairy tale, compare two or more stories, analyze the work of one author, or compare two authors.

Welcomed contributions might include:

  • real science of fairy tales;
  • science fiction fairy tales;
  • local folklore and fables;
  • influence of mythology on fables and tales;
  • tales featuring folklore, fantasy, and mythology;
  • fantasy/science fiction with a fairy tale twist;
  • warnings, conformity and resistance in fables and tales;
  • depressing and tragic ancient tales versus their “happily ever after” modern adaptations and so forth.

Please note: We do not accept poems, original tales written by contributors, interviews and book reviews, only academic papers on juvenile literature.
